1.    Read Jeremiah 32:17-44.  This chapter gives an overview both of the history of Israel and of the main message of the book of Jeremiah. It also shows us the glory of our King and the wonders of His covenant relationship with us.

A. Describe God as you see Him through the eyes of Jeremiah. Meditate on His great attributes. Take time to be still and worship Him.

5.    Read Jeremiah 14:1-19 along with Deuteronomy 11:13-17 and 26-28. 

A.   God is wonderfully consistent and faithful to His Word!  How is the prophet's warning in Deuteronomy about to be fulfilled?

 

 

B. God made it very clear to His people how they should live before Him in order to receive His favor and blessing. Which verses show you that they did not understand why He had withdrawn His blessings?

 

 

C. (Personal) God also wants us to know His character and what is pleasing to Him. What might you do when you find yourself "separated" from God - from the joy and peace of His presence? How would you discern if you have violated His guidelines?  (See Psalm 139:23-24 and Col. 3:1-4, 12-16)

 

 

6.    Read Jeremiah 15:15-21.  God had given Jeremiah an awesome commission: to speak God's Word to a stubborn and disobedient people who refused to hear or obey.

7.    Read Jeremiah 17:5-18.

A.  Describe the contrast between verse 5-6 and 7-8.

 

 

B.  How does the symbolism in verse 8 describe your life in Christ?

 

 

C. In reading verses 9-18, which verses do you find most meaningful?  Why?

 

8.    Read Jeremiah 31. This chapter is full of joyful promises of return and restoration which will take place both in the near future (after the 70 years of exile - see Jer. 29:10-14) and when the Messiah will reign as King in the Millennial Kingdom.

A. Verses 1-21 contain numerous expressions of God's covenant-love for us, His people. Describe the relationship God longs to have with you.

 

 

B. In verses 27-34, God speaks of a new covenant He will make with His people - a covenant not based on law and sacrifices, but which will be realized "in those days" when the "remnant" of Israel chooses to believe in the blood-atonement of Christ, the Messiah. (See Romans 9-11, especially 11:25-27) This covenant will be new to the nation Israel, but it is actually the eternal, everlasting covenant renewed and realized. (See Luke 22:20, Hebrews 13:20, Gal 3:17,  Eph 2:11-22)

1.  Through His covenant, what does God promise to do?

 

 

2.  There are always two sides to the covenant -- though God will actually fulfill both sides as He works in and through His people. How is man's part of the  covenant fulfilled.  (What must you do? See Romans 10:1-4, 9-10 and Phil 2:12-13)

 

9.    Read Romans 11:33-36 and praise God along with Paul. Do you know God more deeply and intimately as you complete this lesson? Tell Him how.
