Deadly behind the wheel:  "When Montana first passed its law, very few people were prescribed, or recommended, medical marijuana. Then marijuana caravans began criss-crossing the state, bringing with them pot doctors who made all their money handing out marijuana cards.... And shortly after that... marijuana DUIs skyrocketed as did the number of fatal car accidents where one of the drivers had marijuana in his blood stream. In two years, the number of fatal car accidents caused by marijuana increased 25 percent.... In California, the number of fatal car crashes caused by marijuana doubled in the five years after they passed their medical marijuana law...."

Drug users' union in San Francisco part of growing movement: "Heroin shooters, speed users, pot smokers and even some men and women who now are drug-free convene regularly in this city's gritty Tenderloin district....This is the San Francisco Drug Users Union, one of a few such groups in the U.S. and part of a growing worldwide movement of thousands who...are demanding a voice 'in decision-making processes that affect our lives.'...The group's ultimate goal is decriminalization..." Truth or Fiction? No Correlation between Smoking Pot and Better College Grades: "Actually no such study has made headlines lately. But there is a new study on pot that mediocre students will love! ....after reading through the hype and comparing it with the actual abstract of the study, it looks like just another example of research methodology on campus used to achieve a desired result....

    "The headline proclaims: 'Marijuana Smoke not as Damaging to Lungs as Cigarette Smoke.' Now, did you immediately assume that the study shows equal amounts of marijuana smoke to be less damaging than equal amounts of tobacco smoke? I did. Well, I didn't, but I would have if I had trusted such studies on illegal drugs since I read the Cato report and its thorough rebuttal by the Portuguese MDs who have studied the issue hands-on and met the actual patients (drug users). I have yet to see such a pro-drug study that is not a wide-eyed attempt to justify a bad habit...."

Indian Tribe Suing Beer Companies for Alcohol Abuse Problems: "Tribal President John Yellow Bird Steele said the tribe council authorized the lawsuit in an effort to protect the reservation's youth. ...One in four children born on the reservation suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome or fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, and the average life expectancy is estimated between 45 and 52 years -- the shortest in North America except for Haiti." Marijuana Use Growing Among Teenagers [2011]: "One out of every 15 high school students smokes marijuana on a near daily basis... The report mixture of herbs and chemicals known widely as 'spice' or 'K2'— or synthetic marijuana, since it mimics the intoxicating effects of herbal marijuana — has quickly gained popularity among teenagers. One in every nine high school seniors reported using it in the past year; most of them also regularly used marijuana.... 'If you talk to school superintendents and principals, they’ll tell you about their concerns that this stuff was being sold a block away from their schools.... But we know from the calls to hot lines, emergency departments and poison control centers that this stuff really is dangerous. It just really wasn’t on parents’ radar screens.'”

Many US Communities Are Blocking Medical Marijuana [2012]: "More and more states are saying yes to medical marijuana. But local governments are increasingly using their laws to keep dispensaries out. In California, nearly 200 city and county governments have banned marijuana dispensaries over the past eight years..."

Teens who smoke pot at risk for later schizophrenia, psychosis [2011]: "Evidence is mounting that regular marijuana use increases the chance that a teenager will develop psychosis.... It also increases the risk of developing schizophrenia, a disabling brain disorder that not only causes psychosis, but also problems concentrating and loss of emotional expression."

Debate re-legalizing drugs & Mexico: "When former President Vicente Fox wrote... that 'we should consider legalizing the production, distribution and sale of drugs,' it was the most far-reaching and high-ranking stand for legalization yet in Mexico, where more than 28,000 people have died during the current administration's war against drug cartels.... The U.S. State Department said Monday that 'the question of debating the legalization of drugs is for Mexicans to decide.'... 'They (Mexican officials) are very afraid that California will legalize marijuana,' said Samuel Gonzalez, a former top anti-drug prosecutor."

Oakland Approves Factory Farms For Medical Marijuana: "The Oakland City Council voted Tuesday to license up to four large marijuana farms in industrial areas to supply the city's four medical cannabis dispensaries, a groundbreaking decision that could result in the mass commercialization of a formerly illicit crop."

Oakland could go to pot in a big way with four proposed factory farms: "Oakland [CA] could approve a plan Tuesday to set up four marijuana factory farms, a step that could usher in the era of Big Pot. The proposal is a testament to just how fast the marijuana counterculture is transforming into a corporate culture....What caught the City Council's attention was... at least $1.5 million a year in taxes. Four views of the historical usage of narcotic or consciousness-altering drugs:

1. China's Opium Wars: "The Opium Wars also known as the Anglo-Chinese Wars, lasted from 1839 to 1842 and 1856 to 1860 respectively.... British smuggling of opium from British India into China and the Chinese government's efforts to enforce its drug laws erupted in conflict. China's defeat in both wars forced the government to have to tolerate the opium trade. Britain forced the Chinese government into signing the Treaty of Nanking and the Treaty of Tianjin, also known as the Unequal Treaties, which included provisions for the opening of additional ports to foreign trade... and the giving of Hong Kong to Britain....

       "Several countries followed Britain and sought similar agreements with China. Many Chinese found these agreements humiliating and these sentiments are considered to have contributed to the bloodthirsty Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864) ... with an estimated death toll of 20-30 million, the Boxer Rebellion (1899-1901), and the downfall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912. ...

       "[Back in 1799 the Chinese Empire had] banned opium imports. The Empire issued the following decree in 1810:

"Opium has a harm. Opium is a poison, undermining our good customs and morality. Its use is prohibited by law. ... However, recently the purchases, eaters, and consumers of opium have become numerous. Deceitful merchants buy and sell it to gain profit. ... If we confine our search for opium to the seaports, we fear the search will not be sufficiently thorough. We should also order the general commandant of the police and police- censors at the five gates to prohibit opium and to search for it at all gates. If they capture any violators, they should immediately punish them and should destroy the opium at once."

"The decree had little effect because the Qing government in Beijing in the north could not stop merchants from smuggling opium into China from the south. This, along with the addictive properties of the drug, the desire for more profit by the British East India Company which had been granted a monopoly on trade with China by the British government, and the fact that Britain wanted silver (see gold standard) furthered the opium trade. By the 1820s China imported 900 tons of opium from Bengal annually."

2.  Bush, Beliefs, and elusive Bonesmen. "The story begins at Yale, where three threads of American social history -- espionage, drug smuggling and secret societies -- intertwined into one....  In 1823, Samuel Russell established Russell and Company for the purpose of acquiring opium in Turkey and smuggling it to China. Russell and Company merged with the Perkins (Boston) syndicate in 1830 and became the primary American opium smuggler. Many of the great American and European fortunes were built on the 'China' (opium) trade." [more information]

3.  The Rape of the Mind. "Drugs and their psychological equivalents are also able to enslave people.... Among drug addicts of all sorts we repeatedly encounter the yearning for a special ecstatic and euphoric mood, a feeling of living beyond everyday trouble. "Thou has the keys of Paradise, O just, subtle, and mighty opium!" Thomas De Quincey says, in his "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater.'... The search for ecstatic experience is not only an individual search, it often reaches out to encompass whole groups.... The hypnotic influence of being part of the crowd can induce the same loss of control and sense of union with the outside world that we associate with drugs.... The demagogue who is able to provide such ecstatic release in the masses can be sure of their yielding to his influence and power. Dictators love to organize such mass rituals...." []

      "The primitive medicine man had several methods of compelling his victim to lose his self-control and reserve. Alcoholic drinks, toxic ointments, or permeating holy smoke which had a narcotizing effect, as used by the Mayas, for example, were used to bring people into such a state of rapture that they lost their self-awareness and restraint."

4. The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley (an enthusiastic participant in the psychedelic movement). "It was in 1886 that the German pharmacologist, Louis Lewin, published the first systematic study of the cactus.... To primitive religion and the Indians of Mexico and the American Southwest it was a friend of immemorially long standing. Indeed, it was much more than a friend. In the words of one of the early Spanish visitors to the New World, 'they eat a root which they call peyote, and which they venerate as though it were a deity.' Why they should have venerated it as a deity became apparent when such eminent psychologists as... Havelock Ellis ... began their experiments with mescalin, the active principle of peyote.... Administered in suitable doses, it changes the quality of consciousness ...
     "The urge to transcend self-conscious selfhood is, as I have said, a principal appetite of the soul. When, for whatever reason, men and women fail to transcend themselves by means of worship, good works and spiritual exercises, they are apt to resort to religion's chemical surrogates -- alcohol and "goof pills" in the modern West, alcohol and opium in the East, hashish in the Mohammedan world, alcohol and marijuana in Central America, alcohol and coca in the Andes..."

Vigilant cop makes big meth bust: "San Jose police officer Vidal Fonseca brought down a suspected methamphetamine lab operating near an elementary school.... Sunday, the officer and a patrol team stopped a car leaving the premises with a pound of crystal meth and later another car that had three pounds of the suspected drug....  Cops estimated the drugs would have brought between $350,000 and $450,000 in street sales. Police also seized a drug-processing lab and a statue of Jesus Malverde, a Mexican folkloric figure identified in court documents as the patron saint of drug traffickers."

February 2008

U.N. Warns of Huge Crop of Afghan Opium Poppies: "Afghanistan will produce another enormous opium poppy crop this year, close to last year’s record harvest, and Europe and other regions should brace themselves for the expected influx of heroin, the United Nations warned.... Afghanistan supplies 90 percent of the world’s opium.... The cultivation of cannabis, the plant that yields marijuana and hashish, is increasing, the report added, making Afghanistan one of the biggest suppliers of cannabis as well.... In 2007, 477,000 acres were under poppy cultivation, yielding an estimated 9,000 tons of opium.... Most poppy farmers in the south and west of the country said they paid a tax to mullahs, the Taliban, or local officials..."

January 2008

U.S. faces 'grave threat' in drug fight: "Mexican military efforts to crush heavily armed drug-smuggling operations in five cities along the U.S.-Mexico border pose a 'grave threat' to U.S. authorities and a half-million Americans in the area.... 'The best solution is for the U.S. military to assume armed positions along the border ... and use whatever force is necessary to control the border zone.' ...

     "A spokesman at the Mexican Embassy in Washington said drug trafficking is a 'shared responsibility and a threat to both our countries and our people.'...'They are very well armed... Their strength has enabled them to seriously challenge civil authority in Mexico for control, with grisly executions being the tool of persuasion when money won't do.... When they come here they will be looking for new bases of operations...' He said the drug smugglers would bring 'new, unimaginable levels of venality and violence' to the United States....'"

America's Most Dangerous Gang - MS13 - Violent, Vicious, and Spreading Fast: "After an intensive investigation, police officials learned the murders were the work of the violent street gang Mara Salvatrucha 13. It also soon became apparent the gang was sending a bold message to its members and associates. That message: 'If you are not loyal, you are dead.' But there was another message in the brutal slayings for the people of Long Island. And that message was that gang violence had moved into the upper middle class enclaves of the Island, into the kinds of communities where the locals assume that crime is somebody else’s problem." Marchers say gringos, not illegals, have to go: "While politicians debate the fate of some 12 million people residing in the U.S. illegally, the Mexica Movement, one of the organizers of the mass protest in Los Angeles this week, has already decided it is the 'non-indigenous,' white, English-speaking U.S. citizens of European descent who have to leave what they call 'our continent.' ...' This is our continent, not yours!' exclaimed one banner."

     This demonstration reminds me of the youth demonstrations of the sixties partly funded by Rockefeller money. Such chaos serves the global agenda well. The crisis justifies more social control. Forget School -- Let's Go March for Immigration: "The organizers of the march are the usual collection of 'Reconquistas' and multiculturalists who networked very effectively for weeks to get this turn-out. I must have received at least a dozen e-mails every day from different friends and groups reminding me to pumy calendar. O ere barraged with telephone calls stating that it was an 'obligation' to show up and be counted."

A Violent Episode, Shameful Too: "...few New Yorkers who work in Midtown or lower Manhattan realize that in July 1863 the streets they now walk every day were the scene of savage riots that left hundreds dead, countless buildings in smoldering ruin and the city in the grip of mobs demanding the overthrow of Abraham Lincoln....

    "The riots were sparked by the introduction of a military draft to fill the depleted ranks of the Union army....  Behind the riots lay a combustible mix of racism, poverty and class resentment that was fanned into violence by pro-Southern Democratic politicians and journalistic demagogues.... In one of the cruelest acts, rioters torched the Colored Orphans' Asylum on Fifth Avenue just north of 42nd Street, driving its 233 children into the streets.... The few officers who wanted to take the initiative against the rioters were stymied by antiwar Gov. Horatio Seymour, who addressed the rioters smilingly as 'my friends.'" See Human Nature

 

Gang terrorizes train in France: "A gang of more than 20 youths -- thought to be North African immigrants -- terrorized hundreds of train passengers in a rampage of violence, robbery and sexual assault on New Year's Day, French officials said yesterday. The five-hour-long criminal frenzy was 'totally unacceptable,' French President Jacques Chirac told reporters....

     "A 20-year-old woman cornered by several of the marauders was sexually molested. 'It was a real scene of pillage on the train.'

     "Police in Nice, meanwhile, said they had escorted the group of drunken youths and put them on the train Sunday to ensure they did not cause trouble in the city. " See The fall and rise of human violence
