Question:
My friends are currently playing
some games called Silkroad and Flyff (Fly for Fun). I tried to find some
information regarding these games as Christian or not on your website. I
couldn't find any so I wondered if these games are good for my spiritual
health. I tried to find some information on Wikipedia, but it wasn't much
help either. Please help me decide whether these games are good or just
plain bad. Thks for the help.

I looked at some of the
websites that featured these games. I didn't find any background myth,
but the images suggest that the characters rely on magical forces, which
from a Christian perspective, would be considered occult. Perhaps this

Question:
What do
we let our kids play with today in this world? I am so confused with this issue of
what your child can do, see, hear, etc. It gets extremely tiring trying to keep the
things away from my son that he should not see. It seems that no matter
what............................ there is always something wrong with the latest toys.
My son virtually does not play with very many toys anymore. I feel like I take
everything away from him. Please tell me, what is left?

you for asking that question. I hope others will bring some great suggestions.
Personally, I believe you can find a lot of toys and family games -- not attached to
any television or movie -- that are neutral and allow children to exercise their own
imagination. Check sports equipment, traditional board games, etc. Pray that God
lead you. He is so faithful to help those who seek His will.
Here is a suggestion that sounds good, but we
cannot personally endorse it since we haven't had time to buy and check it. I
tend to be a bit skeptical of entertainment that replace occult words with Christian
words while using the same framework. Christian words can so easily be trivialized
and assume new meanings when placed in a non-biblical context.

You might check out the CCG called Redemption: <http://www.redemption.com>.
It is the same type of game as the Pokemon card game, and while they both do have a
role playing aspect, they are Collectable Card Games (CCG's) to be technically
correct (Really, I have not seen any role playing focus of Redemption - just simply
the game playing focus and our personal desire to learn more about the Biblical
reference on each card). Anyways, Redemption has become pretty popular and has grown
into something that begins to rival the popular secular CCG's out there. It has an
official tournament structure and claims to be the #1 selling Christian game. Every
time I hear mention of the Pokemon phenomenon, I see it as an opportunity to show
what's out there on the Christian side. Here is something that gives a face to the
Bible stories and gives us a little different perspective.
It's kind of interesting sometimes to see the
arguments regarding CCG's in a different light when I substitute the game Redemption
for the game Pokemon. Do these arguments still hold up? Are there different
aspects of the question that are revealed? Sure!

Nintendo
Question: I
am wondering if you have any information about NINTENDO/PLAYSTATION/DREAMCAST – any of
those. My Bible teacher, Mrs. Tucker, would like to know if you have any information on

Nintendo is a very old Japanese company that started off making playing cards (They
still do I hear) and then later went on to making Video game consoles, including the
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES),
the Game Boy (A small portable game system), and the Nintendo 64 (N64).
The Sony Playstation is a 32-bit console created by
Sony and uses CD-ROMs (Unlike the Nintendo systems, which all use cartridges). There
will be a newer system coming out from Sony called the Playstation 2 and it will come
out around September 2000.
The Sega Dreamcast is currently the newest console
out right now (Its North American release was on September 9, 1999). It has much more
powerful hardware than both the Nintendo 64 and the Sony Playstation. Sega, the game
company that created it, is in big trouble currently as they are in around $2 billion
American dollars of debt and the Dreamcast must succeed in order for them to survive.
