"...let us run
with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto
Jesus...."
Hebrews 12:1-2
When things
go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You might succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse, that you must not quit.

"Remember those
earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground
in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly
exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side
with those who were so treated. You sympathized with
those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property,
because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
"So do not throw
away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so
that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has
promised. For in just a very little while,
"'He who is coming will come and will not delay.
But my righteous
one will live by faith.
And if he shrinks
back, I will not be
pleased with him.'
"But we are not
of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and
are saved."
