"The father of shock rock whose music and stage antics have outraged parents for more than 30 years reportedly embraced Christian faith in the 1980s. ... Cooper -- who legally changed his name from Vince Furnier -- said that although he continued to record and tour with a theatrical horror-style show, 'My life is dedicated to follow Christ.'" Alice Cooper to get doctorate from Christian university
"...be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2
"For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan
himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the
ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
I normally wouldn't do this, but I had such a strong reaction to the post on InJesus about Alice Cooper being a Christian that I had to respond. I am so concerned that people, particularly today's youth and children would be influenced by such lies that I had to try and open the eyes of anyone who would listen.
I'm sorry, but to believe that Alice Cooper is a Christian is wishful thinking. I remember when someone told me he had become a Christian back in the late 90's and I was hopeful that it was true, but skeptical. When I read the lyrics of his latest "Christian" CD, I knew that nothing had changed except his target audience.
I personally came from a background in Rock and Roll. I was playing nightclubs by the age of fourteen and touring by the age of sixteen. I was recording an album at twenty-one that was backed by significant investors when I was told I could have anything I want provided I would reject my Christian faith and align myself with the negative parallel universe. I said no, and overnight the nearly finished recording project was cancelled.
After that I struggled for a long time, still playing and wanting to succeed on my own terms, but then the Lord took hold of me and opened my eyes to the reality of the world I was involved in. Stopping drinking or drugs, or sleeping with scores of women was not enough. I destroyed a collection of 1500 CD's and records because the music was an evil influence that promoted the kingdom of the devil. I promised the Lord that I would never
play again unless it was to glorify His name, and I turned down many offers in order to remain faithful to that promise.
If music is not glorifying the living God, then it is glorifying the enemy.
We cannot be conformed to this world:"And you [hath he quickened], who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others." Ephesians 2:1-3
If Alice Cooper had truly been born again, he would repent completely for the wicked path of destruction he has led so many down over the years. He would openly denounce the Rock and Roll music industry, and no longer condone it. If he were to continue to produce music, or radio shows, or any kind of media, he would use his fame, influence, and money to deliver people from the very evil web to which he has done so much to sew.
He is what he has always been, an agent of the devil. But now his mission includes convincing young Christians that they can dabble in the world -- and that listening to Marilyn Manson or Aerosmith is OK as long as you "believe" in Jesus.
I am alarmed in fact, at the Rock and Roll influence in Christian music as a whole today. Christian Rock is an inappropriate term because Rock and Roll is an expression meaning fornication. I am not saying that all contemporary Christian music is evil, but I am saying that much of it crosses a line.
Modern Christianity is plagued by the desire to have one foot in the world while we play at being saved. God will not accept the, flesh for it is an enmity with God:"For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace. Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8:5-8
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." 2 Timothy 4:3I would love to see everyone trapped in the lie of modern music delivered from their bondage to evil. Both players and listeners. However before we start declaring the wonderful conversion of one of our heroes, we had better be sure of his or her conversion.
Laugh at me if you will, but you do so at your own peril. God is not fooling around, and eternity with Him is no laughing matter. You had better take every word of God with the utmost seriousness. As Paul said, work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
Alice, if by some remote chance you read this, I am warning you that you are facing eternal damnation, and if you really have any spark of the truth burning in you, then you had better submit yourself to the conviction of the Holy Spirit this very moment and throw yourself on your face in heartfelt repentance while you still have a chance. Only Jesus can cancel your "Green Card". May God have mercy upon you.
