The parable of the rich man and Lazarus illustrates that we should take to heart what the Bible says and repent.   Lk 16:19-31

Like the criminal next to Jesus on the cross, we should believe that Jesus is Lord and that His kingdom is not of this world.  Then, ask Him for mercy.  Lk 23:40-43

We should help the poor, and then we will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.   Lk 14:13-14

We should live wisely, redeeming the time, understanding what the will of the Lord is.  Eph 5:14-17

We should have a mind like Paul, who counted all things lost that he could know Christ and the power of His resurrection - so that he could attain to the resurrection of the dead.  Therefore, forgetting the past, he pressed toward the call of God.   Php 3:8-15

NOTE

John MacArthur,  in The MacArthur Study Bible, helps us understand what Jesus meant when He says, "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life:

Jesus' point was an analogy that has spiritual, rather than literal, significance: just as eating and drinking are necessary for physical life, so also is belief in His sacrificial death on the cross necessary for eternal life.  The eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood metaphorically symbolize the need for accepting Jesus' cross work.

One practical way to apply this is verse to to feed on God's Word (the Bible).  (see John 1:1-3)
