Taking a Stand. Thomas Sowell on 'Greed': "No amount of taxation is ever described by the anointed as 'greed' on the part of government.... Families who wish to be independent financially and to make their own decisions about their lives are of little interest or use to those who are seeking to impose their superior wisdom and virtue on other people." Daring to Refuse Compromise: "At J. Middle School in [I deleted the location], teachers passed out stickers to the children that read 'A Day of Silence.' There was no prior advance notice to parents of this event. Wearing the sticker indicated that the child was in favor of gay rights and same-sex marriage and would be silent for the entire day. If a child refused the sticker, he/she was labeled a 'racist.' Very few children refused the sticker.
"My grandson, age 12, refused. He reminded his teachers that California voters voted against same-sex marriage. The teachers responded ... 'well, that's going to change.'

"... in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves.... disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good. ...all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution..." 2 Timothy 3:1-12
King Abdullah Says No To Hamas: "Jordan's King Abdullah has turned down a request from Hamas to re-open its offices in his country.... Hobby Lobby Wins Preliminary Injunction: "Today, a federal court granted Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. a preliminary injunction against the HHS abortion-drug mandate, preventing the government from enforcing the mandate against the Christian company. This victory comes less than a month after a landmark decision by the full 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled 5-3 that Hobby Lobby can exercise religion under the First Amendment and is likely to win its case against the mandate. ...This is a major victory for not only Hobby Lobby, but the religious liberty of all for-profit businesses." DHS Whistleblower says war on terror is a charade, Americans are targeted: "Julia Davis, a former Customs and Border Protections Officer, was falsely declared a domestic terrorist and subjected to retaliatory efforts against her by the Department of Homeland Security. Her home was raided by a 27 man 'special response team.' She was twice falsely arrested and imprisoned, but later exonerated. She is now a national security expert and has put out a historical documentary titled Top Priority: The Terror Within."

Blackballed: the NFL’s Borking of Tim Tebow: "The Jets were a mess this year and if Tim Tebow was on another team’s roster, [Coach] Sanchez would have been replaced.... Sanchez was tolerated only because Tebow was despised. Tim Tebow is ... loved by many, hated by the establishment and constantly disrespected for nothing other than virtue....
"Tim Tebow led the Broncos past the Pittsburgh Steelers just over a year ago.... The only place that Tebow hasn’t succeeded is in New York, where he couldn’t get off the bench. ... Whatever Tebow had been promised got shelved and the dissension on this team stood out as an aberration from Tim’s previous teams and team-mates. ...
"Tebow will not change. He will succeed in whatever endeavor he pursues, for he has already carved out the right priorities: God first, others second, self last."

Will the Boy Scouts stand up to bullies? "For decades, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have heroically withstood attacks from homosexual activists. Now, officials from the organization have indicated that this may be about to change. The BSA says that it is 'discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation."
"'Be prepared.' The motto of the venerable organization that has helped develop countless boys into men, preparedness is not only an aspiration, but a descriptor. ... Please call the Boy Scouts of America at 972-580-2000 and tell them that you want to see the organization stand firm in its moral values and respect the right of parents to discuss these sexual topics with their children." [Sowell]: "When an empirical study of the actual behavior of American conservatives and liberals was published in 2006, it turned out that conservatives donated... a higher percentage of their incomes (which were slightly lower than liberal incomes) to philanthropic activities.... It was just assumed, for centuries, that the left was more compassionate....It was just assumed, for centuries, that the left was more compassionate."Ronald Reagan donated a higher percentage of his income to charitable activities than did either Franklin D. Roosevelt or Ted Kennedy. Being willing to donate the taxpayers' money is not the same as being willing to put your own money where your mouth is.... Milton Friedman pointed out that the heyday of free market capitalism in the 19th century was a period of an unprecedented rise in philanthropic activity."

Nebraska football coach: I’d rather be fired than retract homosexuality remarks: "University of Nebraska’s assistant football coach, Ron Brown, who is facing censure and calls for his dismissal for publicly expressing his biblically-based views against the homosexual lifestyle, has stated that he’d rather be fired than retract his comments....
"His remarks sparked outrage among homosexual advocates and resulted in Barbara Baier of the Lincoln Board of Education issuing a written demand to the University of Nebraska administration calling for Brown to be sacked.
"Brown responded, 'To be fired for my faith would be a greater honor than to be fired because we didn’t win enough games'...'I have simply said that based on the Bible, homosexuality, the lifestyle of homosexuality, is a sin."

'Struck down, but not destroyed': "Born in 1867, Amy Carmichael determined early to follow God -- no matter the cost. She brought His love to hundreds of women in the slums of Ireland then shared the gospel in Japan until her health broke down. Finally God led her to southern India....
"One hot, humid day a terrified little girl ran toward Amy and flung herself into her arms. She had been given to the local Hindu temple as a 'bride' to the Hindu gods -- a well-guarded temple prostitute taught to serve the demands of male worshippers. Her escape was truly a miracle! From that day on, Amy knew her God-given mission.

Backlash Begins Against Obama’s LGBT agenda: "The citizens of several countries are pushing back against President Obama’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender foreign policy imperative. New NIV “was written, it seems, by cowards for cowards” says Voice of the Martyrs Director: "'One current example of this dangerous numbing down of the Christian faith is the 2011 NIV Bible.... In Job, Amos, Psalms, Isaiah and Jeremiah, the translators have removed all 16 references to our greatest motive for evangelizing–-the 'shadow of death'–and replaced the phrase with 'darkness.' ... "The U.S. has given Islamabad billions in military and civilian aid....It does not seem to have produced a better or less fanatical country. A Door in the Darkness: "But it was not the bad food and the lack of sanitation [in the Russian prison] that bothered me the most. It was the conduct of the prisoners themselves. Nothing was too vile or evil for them. Their language, their attitudes, and their actions were extremely difficult to bear. We were all crowded together—murderers, thieves, arsonists, and political prisoners. The toughest of the bunch were always out to assert themselves and bring the rest of us under their thumbs." Battle of the Mind: "Many books employ human wisdom and add a few Bible verses to sanctify a system they have borrowed from the world. When something is that acceptable to the world we need to question whether it is indeed authentic Christianity." See Unequal Contenders in the Spiritual War

Prayer, Prison & God's Provision (A Small Price to Pay, Part 6): "'...the officer knew I was doing. He wanted me to ...stop traveling around to other places, preaching.... I am not praying to be able to go home. I am praying that I can continue the work of God, even here in prison.'
"Aaron thought for several moments. 'For everyone that asketh, receiveth. Is that what it really says?' I again nodded my head. 'Yes.' Then he laughed. 'Then I will tell you what to ask. Ask your God to send me some apples. In the two years I have been in prison, not once have I tasted an apple.' He looked keenly at me, challenging me."
Sent to Serve God in Prison (From A Small Price to Pay): “'Attention!' The by-now familiar command came from a guard at the door....'If I call your name, get ready for transport!' The guard began to read names. I rose to get my bag when I heard my name. 'No,' the other prisoners protested. 'Sit down. You have fifteen more minutes. We need to talk some more.'
'"I want you to pray for my wife...' insisted one man.'... A chorus of other requests rained on my ears. As I knelt beside my chair, I tried to remember all the prayer requests....[A prisoner] said, 'I was sentenced to six months for my crime. Now I am glad that in these six months I have met you.'”
A Small Price to Pay: (Part 4) God had been preparing young Misha to share the gospel in some of Russia's most hostile places. A Small Price to Pay: "There was a noise at the front door. The officer leapt to his feet...and grabbed Papa by his coat, jerking him into the room.... 'Ivan Khorev, you are under arrest.'...
"I know God must have prepared my father for this time, because there was no panic, no alarm at all as he looked at the strange scene he had come home to after his long night at work. I am sure he had seen the Black Raven parked in front of our apartment building. Everyone in the city knew that when that vehicle was outside, someone was being arrested and taken to prison. His eyes rested on Mama for a moment, then he looked at us children. As the two soldiers moved toward him again, Papa held up his hand. “Wait! We will pray together before I leave with you.”

Officer won't sign order for troop indoctrination: "President Obama's repeal of the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy is already damaging the U.S. military. An Army lieutenant colonel has asked to be relieved of command rather than order his troops to go through pro-homosexual indoctrination following the repeal of the policy, which required homosexuals to keep silent about their sexual preference. Currently the commander of a battalion-sized unit in the Army National Guard, the officer also has threatened to resign his commission rather than undergo 'behavior modification' training intended to counter his religious convictions about homosexuality." What Are We Thinking About? "Some things in the Bible come in pairs. One statement helps us avoid the ditch on one side of the road, and the other statement helps us avoid the ditch on the opposite side. When it comes to what we think about, we need to understand both sets of principles. On the one hand, we need to have enough understanding of evil to be able to deal with it. On the other hand, we need to focus on good things—not bad ones."

The Watchman: "Some one, then, must undertake the ungracious task of probing and laying bare the evils of the age; for men must not be allowed to congratulate themselves that all is well. If others will not, he will. If others shrink from such a work, he will not.... He loves his fellow-men too well. ... He will prefer being thus misunderstood and maligned, to allowing men to precipitate themselves upon a ruin which they see not. ... The evils around him press upon him sadly; the coming evils are foreshadowed upon his spirit, and, therefore, he lifts up his voice like a trumpet." See Opening Prayer

Bring Back Biblical Girlhood: "Parents around the world were recently shocked to see pictures in the UK Daily Mail online of girls, some as young as eight, dressed in red and black lingerie performing a racy dance routine to Beyonce's 'All the Single Ladies' at a dance contest. 2010Answering Bonhoeffer's Critics: Our article "Nazi Religion versus 'Religionless' Faith" brought an interesting blend of approving and critical responses....
First allegation: "[Bonhoeffer] did not die for his faith in Christ, but rather for his participation in one of the plots to assassinate Adolph Hitler."
"Response: Actually, Bonhoeffer was imprisoned for rescuing Jews during Hitler's deadly purge. While in prison, he served as a pastor and encourager to all around him. His friends, including some appreciative guards who truly cared about him, planned an escape that would have brought him safely out of Hitler's reach. But he decided to remain a prisoner rather than risk endangering the lives of his family and friends." See The School of Joyful Endurance
The Cost of Discipleship: "In his hearing before the Gestapo during his imprisonment, defenseless and powerless...only fortified by the word of God in his heart, [Bonhoeffer] stood erect and unbroken before his tormentors. He refused to recant, and defied the Gestapo machine by openly admitting that, as a Christian, he was an implacable enemy of [Hitler's] National Socialism.... [He] defied it, although he was continually threatened with torture and with the arrest of his parents… In 1944, when friends made an attempt to liberate him and to take him to safety abroad, he decided to remain in prison in order not to endanger others....

From Blindness to Sight: "...one day, God enabled her to see such destruction of life from His perspective. It was as if a veil had suddenly been removed from her eyes. Then the surgeon removed the cataract and put in a good lens. Now, all of a sudden, they see unobstructed reality.

The simple path to Middle East peace: "Linkletter, who experienced many setbacks and tragedies in his life, observed, 'Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out.' Adherence to this simple bit of wisdom sums up why Israel has been a story of success and miracles and why the Palestinian Arabs languish.
"Take the case of Gaza.... The Israelis decided to unilaterally pull their presence out of Gaza in 2005 and turned control for its administration over to the Palestinians.... As the Israelis readied to withdraw, the Palestinian Authority prime minister announced, 'We are telling the entire world, today Gaza and tomorrow Jerusalem.'" See Jerusalem

[Her superior, the] library director Elizabeth Martinez said patrons have right to information and the filters would block out more than just the bad stuff.... [But] filters have advanced so much even the ACLU now argues filters are 95% effective and no longer block health-related information. The library director's not mentioning this is another way she is misleading the community." See Opening Prayer, Kansas State Senate
Blessings in Disguise: "When discussing the problem of loving difficult people, [Charles Spurgeon] said, 'So much the more room for the heroism of love. Wouldst thou be a feather-bed warrior, instead of bearing the rough fight of love? He who dares the most, shall win the most; and if rough be thy path of love, tread it boldly, still loving thy neighbours through thick and thin.'
"Such trials enable us (by God’s grace) to develop character qualities which will bear good fruit for eternity. If we can get a vision for the valuable end results, then we will be able to see each trial as being helpful. That will enable us to 'count it all joy” — to consider it something to be grateful for, rather than a problem to endure."
"In joy or pain, our course is onward still": [Burma in "But new battles were brewing. The Burmese king feared foreigners and had little tolerance for Christian missionaries. Accused of being a British spy, Judson was thrown in prison -- a crowded, sweltering, windowless 'death camp.' The floor was covered with human waste, and their food consisted of maggot-infested animals (including decaying rats) hardly fit for humans. To prevent night-time escapes, the guards would sometimes chain the prisoners to a rack and elevate their feet, resting their heads and shoulders in the rat-infested sewage below. The pain, heat and stench was nearly unbearable.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ or the Mystery of Iniquity? "Some leaders in the emerging new spirituality call themselves 'Red Letter Christians,' referring to the red letters in some Bibles that signify the words of Jesus Christ. But these same leaders minimize or all together reject warnings in the Bible from the Lord about spiritual deception and the cost that goes with belonging to the Him....
"...the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 'And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved." (Matt. 10:21-22)
Are We Fundamentalists? "There are now two kinds of evangelicals.... The old is the authentic, biblical position. The new is far off the track, not in its basic view of salvation, but in its readiness to compromise with doctrinal error and worldly ways. The new is selling the faith for earthly respect and recognition... and churches are being ruined....
"Today, old-style evangelicals are in the minority.... Old-style evangelicals are often called fundamentalists, particularly in the USA. New-style evangelicals adopted the term, 'new evangelical' to describe themselves in the 1950s.... Those of us who are old-style evangelicals are now being labeled as fundamentalist by our critics, the new-style evangelicals.....
"The new evangelicals are appropriating to themselves the exclusive use of the term evangelical, and calling old-style believers fundamentalists. Like their American mentors they define the latter term in the most objectionable way."

"...the government of Uganda is considering passage of the anti-homosexuality bill because of the growing concern by officials and religious leaders that foreign homosexuals and special interest groups are trying to spread homosexuality throughout the country and undermine the country's return to traditional moral values. Campaigns and groups promoting the rights of 'sexual minorities' have emerged in Uganda and other African countries, with funding from billionaire George Soros.... Uganda emphasizes abstinence and monogamy in its fight against AIDS, in contrast to the reckless 'safe sex' approach popularized by 'progressives' in the U.S. who want to avoid finding homosexuality itself to be a dangerous 'lifestyle'."
