'What we proposed as language was as follows, ‘House Democrats unveiled a government-run health care plan,' Carter said. 'Our response from Franking was, ‘You cannot use that language. You must use, ‘The House majority unveiled a public option health care plan'…'"

      "'I would submit to you this is a free speech issue, guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States,' Carter said.... 'Republicans will be forced to use the Democrats' version of language describing their attempted government takeover of healthcare on their official communications..."

Regulatory Czar may target internet for "fairness": "Cass Sunstein, is in support of a form of internet fairness doctrine. Read: Censorship.... He has proposed, among other things, a 'notice and take down' law. - Essentially a provision that would require websites to take down 'falsehoods' upon notice from the federal government. And what is considered a 'falsehood'...? ... The term 'falsehood' could easily be used as a tool to silence politically inconvenient reports.... The Czars so far appointed, seem aimed at limiting the freedom of many individuals for the common 'good.'"

Cass Sunstein's despicable ideas on regulating the internet: "Cass Sunstein, a Harvard Law professor who has been appointed to a shadowy post that will grant him powers that are merely mind-boggling, explicitly supports using the courts to impose a 'chilling effect' on speech that might hurt someone's feelings. He thinks that the bloggers have been rampaging out of control and that new laws need to be written to corral them.... 'We hardly need to imagine a world, however, in which people and institutions are being harmed by the rapid spread of damaging falsehoods via the Internet,' he writes. 'We live in that world. What might be done to reduce the harm?'...

What Obama's hiding and the media are ignoring: "Barack Obama's birthday is Aug. 4, and I hereby urge the president to bestow a party favor on the nation that elected him: a verifying look at the original 'long-form' version of his birth certificate. It's important to grasp the weird fact that this simple request, requiring nothing more than a nod of the presidential head, ranks as fightin' words to American journalists. ... DeMint’s amendment banned... the Fairness Doctrine which, prior to 1987, was used by the government to stifle free speech on our nation’s airwaves. DeMint’s amendment passed 87-11. Score one for free speech.

     "The Washington Post... ignored completely the fact that Evan is homeschooled, and chalked up his win to tuna sandwiches from Subway.... The subheadline reads: 'Fueled by Tuna Sandwiches, California Teen Tops 300 students.'... The New York Times ran a story about an immigrant from India who lost in the second round of the competition.... Thus, the Times managed to use the National Spelling Bee as one more forum for pushing the plight of immigrants.... The media as a whole studiously ignored the ongoing story of homeschoolers scoring remarkable successes at the National Spelling Bee and other competitions...." She had filed a report on recent Iraqi and U.S. troop action along Baghdad's Haifa Street, but complained that it 'only appeared on our CBS website and was not aired on CBS. It is a story that is largely being ignored.' The report featured a masked 'Haifa Street resident' who 'blamed the fighting on the U.S.' ....

      "The footage 'obtained by CBS' is identical to that put out by al-Qaida. But Logan makes no mention of al-Qaida's video and does not address the implication that the footage she used was off an al-Qaida video. Woman's death at hands of 'gay' her fault, says lawyer -- Trial begins over death of Christian who questioned homosexual lifestyle choice: "Mary Stachowicz was attacked with such ferocity the assailant's hunting knife blade was bent, but a defense attorney for her alleged attacker is painting her with the blame, saying it wasn't a 'hate crime' and it happened because her comments about his 'gay' lifestyle assaulted the man. And since it was only a routine murder case, not a 'hate crime,' the story is getting almost no coverage from mainstream media outlets....

Ted Turner Tells Philanthropists 'Give Until it Hurts': "Media mogul and CNN founder Ted Turner told a roomful of fellow philanthropists on Monday to 'give until it hurts' but said they should keep some extra cash.... 'Keep a few hundred million at least, because you never know,' Turner told a crowd of about 300 people at the Clinton Presidential Library. 'Things could get really tough.'

Bible Should Have 'Fiction' Disclaimer: "...famed British actor Ian McKellen [Gandalf of Lord of the Rings], piped up: 'Well, I've often thought the Bible should have a disclaimer in the front saying this is fiction. I mean, walking on water, it takes an act of faith. And I have faith in this movie. Not that it's true, not that it's factual, but that it's a jolly good story. And I think audiences are clever enough and bright enough to separate out fact and fiction, and discuss the thing after they've seen it.'

Misrepresenting the Holocaust: "In February [1999], President Clinton told the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. that 'Adolf Hitler preached a perverted form of Christianity.' That is patently untrue. Hitler was in fact an enemy of Christianity.... Consider his 1933 statement that 'It is through the peasantry that we shall really be able to destroy Christianity because there is in them a true religion rooted in nature and blood.'

     "If Hitler was actually an anti-Christian, where did President Clinton get this characterization of the Führer as a kind of believing avenger? Perhaps, I am sad to say, from misrepresentations currently promoted in Holocaust museums and programs around the country. ...Of course, the American forces who liberated the concentration camp were composed of mostly Christians....

      "Imagine my surprise when, as an adult, I found a riveting, true story that I had not only never read but had never even heard of.... Furthermore, a call to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, revealed that the book was not carried in their gift shop.... The book is widely known and read in Christian homes and schools around the country. It has been made into a movie. The book is The Hiding Place, by Corrie ten Boom, which tells the true story of how she and her family hid Jews in the Netherlands.... Why has it been in effect censored from Jewish reading lists on the Holocaust?...

'60 Minutes' Quotes Reprimanded Sexuality Scientist: "...reporters have a problem with presenting facts, or at least truth in disclosure concerning the 'experts' they bring on to give us the facts. Case in point, Lesley Stahl. In the March 12, 2006 episode of '60 Minutes' she presented a piece about science and sexual orientation. However, what Stahl conveniently left out of her piece and failed to tell the viewing public, is that her 'expert' J. Michael Bailey has been exposed and charged for 'research misconduct' concerning the research he is best known for on transexuality." See The Mainstream Media

The next three links explain the power of "memes" -- a word I first heard during a round table discussion at Gorbachev's State of the World Forum. The leaders were all in favor of using memes as propaganda to change minds and raise support for global communitarianism.

 

Attack of the memes (by John Leo): "'Meme' refers to a cultural copying unit that hops from brain to brain without much thought or any at all.... What Kaus means is that the mainstream media keep reinforcing ideas liberals want to believe, whether they are true or not....

     "A related meme is that marriage is a civil right that a just society must extend to gays. 'Equality in marriage' reinforces the liberal belief that an entitlement is being arbitrarily withheld from an aggrieved group; again stoking the feeling that anyone who disagrees is a redneck....

     "Even worse was the 'racist response to Katrina' meme.... The idea was to peel away growing Republican support among blacks by playing the race card. It worked. The rapid spread of the meme was the reason why a bland one-liner by entertainer Kanye West-- 'George Bush doesn't care about black people'-- unexpectedly became a famous quote."
