U.N. climate chief turns carbon to green: "...U.N. climate chief Rajendra K. Pachauri's resume shows more extensive international business relationships through which he stands to profit from global warming activism. ... A Mumbai-based Indian multinational conglomerate with business ties to Pachauri, the chairman since 2002 of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, stands to make several hundred million dollars in European Union carbon credits simply by closing a steel production facility in Britain with the loss of 1,700 jobs.... Snow Storms Cause Death and Chaos in Europe: "Snow storms across western Europe killed at least five people on Monday and disrupted flights and train services in Britain, France and Spain as authorities warned of worse to come. Snow storms killed two climbers on Mount Snowdon in Wales while three people died in accidents and from the cold in Italy as some of the heaviest snowfall in years shut down transport links in some of western Europe's major cities.

     "In London, which experienced some of the worst snow in 20 years, most flights at Heathrow airport were grounded, buses were taken off the roads, subway services suspended and schools were closed, bringing traffic in the British capital to a virtual standstill. Residents across the Midwest and the Plains were digging out Friday after a fierce snowstorm, while those who spent the night in airports and shelters tried to resume their journeys. PM warns of climate 'catastrophe': "The UK faces a 'catastrophe' of floods, droughts and killer heat waves if world leaders fail to agree a deal on climate change... Gordon Brown said negotiators had 50 days to save the world from global warming and break the 'impasse.'"

Copenhagen goal is 1-world government: "At [the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in] Copenhagen this December [7-18], weeks away, a treaty will be signed.... Your president will sign it. Most of the Third World countries will sign it, because they think they're going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regimes from the European Union will rubber stamp it. Virtually nobody won't sign it, he told the audience of some 700 attendees.

     "'I read that treaty and what it says is this: that a world government is going to be created. The word 'government' actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity. Global Control. Lethal gas may have to be stored under villages: "Millions of tonnes of potentially lethal carbon dioxide may have to be stored deep under towns and villages to prevent climate change, according to a senior government adviser."

       Carbon dioxide is not a "lethal" gas! It's all around us! It makes plants grow and produce food. It's essential to our forests, farms... everything! Our God made it that way! See Green Lies

The high of 26 degrees on Sunday broke the record of 30 degrees set in 1899 and the low at 3 a.m. of 14 degrees broke the 1881 record of 17 degrees.... Similarly on Saturday, the low of 9 degrees broke the 1987 record of 15 degrees....."

Treemometers: A new scientific scandal: "At least eight papers purporting to reconstruct the historical temperature record times may need to be revisited, with significant implications for contemporary climate studies, the basis of the IPCC's assessments..... In every case, peer review failed to pick up the errors. ... But trees are a highly controversial indicator of temperature, since the rings principally record Co2, and also record humidity, rainfall, nutrient intake and other local factors. Picking a temperature signal out of all this noise is problematic....

      "The process of creating a raw data set also involves a selective use of samples - a choice open to a scientist's biases.... Yet none of this has stopped paleoclimataologists from making bold claims using tree ring data. In particular, since 2000, a large number of peer-reviewed climate papers have incorporated data from trees at the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia. ...

      "Scientists have ensured much of the measurement data used in the reconstructions remains a secret - failing to fulfill procedures to archive the raw data. Gore, Ban Push CEOs to Back Climate Change Deal: "Climate-change heavyweights U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon and Nobel prize winner Al Gore urged more than 500 business leaders on Sunday to lend their corporate muscle to reaching a global deal on reducing greenhouse gases. The CEOs of PepsiCo, Nestle, BP and other major world businesses began meeting in Copenhagen, where politicians will gather in December to negotiate a new U.N.-brokered climate treaty. Despite the global financial crisis, both Ban and Gore said there was no time for delay in hashing out the specifics of how to cut greenhouse gases that contribute to warming the planet. 'Green' lightbulbs poison workers: "When British consumers are compelled to buy energy-efficient lightbulbs from 2012, they will save up to 5m tons of carbon dioxide a year from being pumped into the atmosphere. In China, however, a heavy environmental price is being paid.... Large numbers of Chinese workers have been poisoned by mercury, which forms part of the compact fluorescent lightbulbs. A surge in foreign demand, set off by a European Union directive making these bulbs compulsory within three years, has also led to the reopening of mercury mines that have ruined the environment."

In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years....

      "The error was so glaring that when it was reported on the two blogs - run by the US meteorologist Anthony Watts and Steve McIntyre, the Canadian computer analyst who won fame for his expert debunking of the notorious "hockey stick" graph - GISS began hastily revising its figures. This only made the confusion worse because, to compensate for the lowered temperatures in Russia, GISS claimed to have discovered a new 'hotspot' in the Arctic - in a month when satellite images were showing Arctic sea-ice recovering so fast from its summer melt that three weeks ago it was 30 per cent more extensive than at the same time last year.....

Prominent Scientists reverse belief in man-made global warming -- Now skeptics: "The names included below are just a sampling of the prominent scientists who have spoken out recently to oppose former Vice President Al Gore, the United Nations, and the media driven 'consensus' on man-made global warming." Lack of Sunspots and The Mini-IceAge: "Approximately 100 scientists from Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and North America gathered June 1-6 to talk about 'Solar Variability, Earth's Climate and the Space Environment.'... Dana Longcope, a solar physicist at MSU, said the sun usually operates on an 11-year cycle with maximum activity occurring in the middle of the cycle. Minimum activity generally occurs as the cycles change. Solar activity refers to phenomena like sunspots, solar flares and solar eruptions. Together, they create the weather than can disrupt satellites in space and technology on earth. The last cycle reached its peak in 2001 and is believed to be just ending now, Longcope said. The next cycle is just beginning and is expected to reach its peak sometime around 2012. Today's sun, however, is as inactive as it was two years ago, and scientists aren't sure why.

      "'It's a dead face,' Tsuneta said of the sun's appearance. Tsuneta said solar physicists... have observed a longer-than-normal period of solar inactivity. In the past, they observed that the sun once went 50 years without producing sunspots. That period coincided with a little ice age on Earth that lasted from 1650 to 1700."

The Bakken Oil Formation -- Welcome to the Next Oil Boom: "The U.S. Geological Survey just published its official results of a groundbreaking study. Its report confirmed a massive oil reserve in an area the locals have nicknamed the 'Bakken,' which stretches across North Dakota, Montana and southeastern Saskatchewan. The new USGS study estimates a whopping 3.65 billion barrels of oil in the Bakken.... Discovered over 50 years ago, the Bakken deposit -- once impossible to extract -- is now being hailed as the single largest oil find in US history. That's because, today, thanks to breakthrough drilling techniques like horizontal drilling, the Bakken's oil shales can be extracted relatively cheaply."

NASA Backtracks On 1998 Warmest Year Claim (In case you missed this last fall): "The warmest year on record is no longer 1998... NASA scientist James Hansen's famous claims about 1998 being the warmest year on record in the U.S. was the result of a serious math error, according to H. Sterling Burnett, a senior fellow at the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA). NASA has now corrected the error, anointing 1934 as the warmest year and 1921 as the third warmest year, not 2006 as previously claimed. 'Hansen's conclusions that the majority of the 10 hottest years occurred since 1990 are false,' Burnett said. 'While Hansen's original declaration made headlines, NASA's correction has been ignored.' According to NASA's newly published data:

* The hottest year on record is 1934, not 1998;

* The third hottest year on record was 1921, not 2006;

* Three of the five hottest years on record occurred before 1940; and

Sunshade World – a global warming solution? : Placing a ‘sunshade’ in space in order to counteract global warming was first proposed in 1989. More recent studies concluded that such a scheme could be developed and deployed in about 25 years time at a cost of several trillion dollars. Proposed Western 'eco-region' dies in Legislature: "A bill backing a massive 'Yellowstone-to-Yukon' conservation initiative has died in the statehouse.... Lost along with the bill is a clause that would have declared Spokane the U.S. capital of the two-nation, 502,000-square-mile 'Y2Y' eco-region.... Stretching from west-central Wyoming to just south of the Arctic Circle, Y2Y is the second largest animal migration corridor in the world.... But the critics... predicted that Y2Y will pave the way for land-use restrictions, road closures and other limits on farming, ranching and logging. Critics outnumbered proponents more than 4-to-1.... 'Don’t hand over purple mountains majesty and fruited plains to environmentalists who put biota and bugs above humans,' Clark said. Biblical Scholars Challenge Pelosi's 'Scripture' Quote: "In her April 22 Earth Day news release, Pelosi said, 'The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.' ["Pelosi has repeatedly used the quote"]

     "'It is not in the Bible,' Mariottini said. 'There is nothing that even approximates that.'...People try to use the Bible to give authority to what they are trying to say....(This) is one of those texts that you fabricate in order to support what you want to say."

 

Our Climate Numbers Are a Big Old Mess: "...Because there is no substitute technology to achieve these massive reductions, we'll just have to get by with less energy.....

     "...every climatologist must know that Greenland's last decade was no warmer than several decades in the early and mid-20th century. In fact, the period from 1970-1995 was the coldest one since the late 19th century, meaning that Greenland's ice anomalously expanded right about the time climate change scientists decided to look at it.....

      "...Al Gore's book, "An Inconvenient Truth," ... stating "These photographs from Greenland illustrate some of the dramatic changes now happening on the ice there." Really?...

      "Finally, no one seems to want to discuss that for millennia after the end of the last ice age, the Eurasian arctic was several degrees warmer in summer (when ice melts) than it is now. We know this because trees are buried in areas that are now too cold to support them....

      "If global warming isn't such a threat, who needs all that funding? ...as we face the threat of massive energy taxes – raised by perceptions of increasing rates of warming and the sudden loss of Greenland's ice – we should be talking about reality." [Mr. Michaels is senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute and professor of environmental sciences at University of Virginia.]

 

More Global Warming Nonsense: "Dr. Patz, the World Health Organization (WHO) and others claim that global warming is now spreading disease and may be the cause of some 160,000 deaths a year. In 2007, for example, WHO pointed to rising temperatures in an outbreak of a mosquito-borne virus.... Yet WHO misdiagnosed the problem.....In that case, the transmitter of the disease, or vector, was the Asian Tiger mosquito. It is native to Asia, but exported world-wide in shipments of used tires. It is now abundant in parts of U.S. and in 12 countries in Europe.....

      "...malaria was once common in most of Europe and North America. In parts of England.... William Shakespeare was born at the start of the especially cold period that climatologists call the 'Little Ice Age,' yet he was aware enough of the ravages of the disease to mention it in eight of his plays.....in some regions it persisted until the insecticide DDT wiped it out." 

       Opposition to DDT has hindered the battle against malaria, but that might fit Ted Turner's view of population "control" well. See Saving the Earth

 

Ted Turner in an April 1 interview with Charlie Rose (slow to open): "TURNER: ...We'll... be eight degrees hotter in 10 – not 10, but in 30 or 40 years. And basically none of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died, and the rest of us will be cannibals. Civilization will have broken down.... The droughts will be so bad, there will be no more corn growing. . . . we've got to stabilize the population.

"ROSE: So what is wrong with the population?...

"TURNER: We're too many people. That's why we have global warming. We have global warming because too many people are using too much stuff. ... everybody in the world has got to pledge to themselves that one or two children is it."

      Turner's irrational predictions make no sense. But his real passion is population control.

 

Twelve-month long drop in world temperatures wipes out a century of warming: "Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years..... But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously..... For all four sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down....

      "Cold is more damaging than heat. The mean temperature of the planet is about 54 degrees. Humans -- and most of the crops and animals we depend on -- prefer a temperature closer to 70.... Historically, the warm periods such as the Medieval Climate Optimum were beneficial for civilization. Corresponding cooling events such as the Little Ice Age, though, were uniformly bad news." The Polar Bear Express: "Global warming is becoming a new unified field theory for environmentalists.... Consider the political campaign to prod the Bush Administration to list the polar bear as an endangered species.... The problem is that polar bear populations have been rising over the last four decades, and may now be at an historic high.... The more honest activists basically concede that a listing is a P.R. ploy to raise awareness... If the 'iconic' polar bear is classified as threatened, and the harm is formally attributed to warming caused by humans, then their gambit could lead to all sorts of regulatory mischief. Never mind that even drastic world-wide reductions in carbon emissions over the next decade or so wouldn't have the slightest affect on ice melt." See Green Lies and Amazing Truths

Bono confesses sins to 'father' Al Gore: "Sharing a stage with the former US vice president at the annual gathering of world movers and shakers in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, the U2 frontman joked that their friendship was a source of pressure.... 'It's like being with an Irish priest. You start to confess your sins,' he said. 'Father Al, I am not just a noise polluter, I am a noise-polluting, diesel-soaking, gulfstream-flying rock star. 'I'm going to kick the habit. I'm trying father Al, but oil has been very good for me -- those convoys of articulated lorries, petrochemical products, hair gel.'       Their conflicting goals present an interesting paradox. Gore's plan calls for a shift from oil to ethanol. That means converting wheat and other grain fields to the corn -- not for human consumption but for cars. The result is higher food prices and less food for the poor around the world.  Gore wins; Bono loses. But both share the public applause for speeding transformation. Prince Charles will appear at conference as a hologram: "...Prince Charles is set to confound his critics by addressing an energy conference - as a hologram. Determined to keep his environmental damage to a minimum, Charles will save the 15 tons of carbon that would have been generated by flying himself and his staff 7,000 miles to the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi. ...

     "It [the royal image] is then reflected up on to a paper-thin sheet of foil to create an optical illusion that makes him appear as a 3-D image on stage. Former US Vice-President Al Gore used similar technology to appear as a hologram at Wembley Stadium at the beginning of the Live Earth concerts earlier this year.

     "Charles was heavily criticised in January when he.... flew to Philadelphia with 12 staff to pick up an award from Mr Gore honouring him as an environmentalist. That trip created 20 tons of carbon dioxide." See Green Lies and Amazing Truths
